RLS Training, led by Residence Life Manager Mieke Berg, is an on-going initiative, with a minimum of four workshops a year. The training sessions visit topics ranging from culture to mental health to policies and procedures, from the philosophical to the tangible. Sessions are generally open to colleagues in Facilities, the Facilities Support Team and Student Life and offer an opportunity for these teams to interact and connect while working through shared experiences. RLS Training is supplemented with additional Res Life only training sessions such as RLS Roundtables (facilitated by Mieke), health and safety training, or other team specific topics.
Recent sessions have included ‘Dealing with Differences’, delivered by FIE faculty member and inter-cultural trainer Rob Johnson, ‘Confidentiality: supporting staff and students’ delivered by FIE faculty member and psychotherapist Dr Deborah Hill and summer practicum student Khelan Todd, and ‘Managing anger and challenging student behaviour’ delivered by Mind, the mental health charity.
